Markets We Serve

EMF, EMI, RFI, and high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP) are common concerns across many industries. Here are some of the market sectors we are proud to serve in the Boston area:

  • Research Laboratories: Highly specialized equipment and systems commonly used in pharmaceutical, bio-engineering, genetic, and other advanced research laboratories can be extremely sensitive to DC and AC magnetic fields and a wide band of RF frequencies.
  • Medical Facilities: Electromagnetic interference in medical facilities can have a negative impact on patient throughput and quality of care.
  • Educational Facilities: Students exposed to elevated levels of AC magnetic fields have the potential for serious health risks.
  • Transportation: Mass transit systems—including rail, light rail, and subways—can pose a significant EMF impact on facility programs and equipment operations in areas surrounding an alignment.
  • Government: Some military and government facilities include mission-critical programs and operations with EMF, EMI, iEMI, and EMP sensitive applications.
  • Commercial: In the ever-changing world of technology, facility clients have operations that are susceptible to varying levels of EMI/RFI from a multitude of emission sources.

Consulting Services

The consulting services from FMS are distinctly consultative and collaborative in nature. Our goal is to work closely with your team to determine the EMI/RFI threat risks to facility operations, which is the first step toward mitigating them. Our consulting services include:

  • Site Surveys: We identify, document, record, and analyze the existing electromagnetic environment at your site, including geomagnetic, quasi-DC, AC ELF, and RF field levels.
  • Risk Assessments: Our electrical and professional engineers review your facility’s design documents and equipment/tools lists to identify potential EMF/RF emission sources that could place your instruments or programs at increased risk of interference.
  • Simulations and Modeling: When field strength measurements are inadequate or impossible because the facility is in the design phase, FMS can conduct 2D and 3D computer simulations to help identify the potential threat risk to optimize EMI mitigation efforts before the facility is up and running.

Mitigation Design

FMS provides comprehensive EMF/RF mitigation and shielding design services for both passive and active mitigation solutions. FMS’ design documents provide our clients with the information necessary to engage a qualified shielding contractor for the installation of the required mitigation strategy.

EMF Services in Boston

Electromagnetic fields (EMF) are a normal occurrence in everyday life. However, there are times when EMF levels can present a potential risk to facility operations and tenant programs. If your facility is subject to EMF, your concerns may be twofold: first, the potential for malfunctioning facility systems, and second, EMF levels inhibiting the daily operations in tenant facilities. FMS’s team of experts provide the provide services necessary to address the EMI challenged environment.

EMI Services

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is a common occurrence in our increasingly automated and wireless world. To mitigate EMI concerns, FMS can assess the risk, design the mitigation solution, and manage the implementation of the mitigation strategy for reducing EMF emissions to non-EMI threat risk levels.

RFI Services

Radio frequency interference (RFI) is dangerous because it can degrade emergency communications, diagnostic instrumentation, building security, and other vital systems, often with harmful or even disastrous results. FMS has decades of experience assessing and designing solutions to solve these problems.

RECENT & UPCOMING PROJECTS

UCI – IMRI

FMS as the EMF/EMI Consultant designed and installed the passive and active mitigation systems for this newly established interdisciplinary organization under the Office of Research of the University of California Irvine (UCI) to house state of the art electron-microscope labs (4 imaging cells). The project required analysis of interference potential of all internal and external emission sources, which included vehicle and facility elevators (DC), broadband electrical system (AC) sources, etc.

Harvard LISE

FMS was engaged as the project’s EMI Consultant by the project architect (Wilson Architects) to conduct an electromagnetic field (EMF) analysis in an existing laboratory (shell space) located in the basement level of the Harvard CNS facility.

CURE

Seattle Children’s Research Institute is currently in the construction phase of ”Building Cure”, a 540,000 square foot research building, which will be dedicated to developing therapies for children with diseases such as Cancer, Type 1 Diabetes and Sickle Cell Anemia.

Un. of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Electrical and Computer Engineering Bldg.

FMS was engaged to conduct a thorough assessment of the building’s design for EMI interference threat concerns to sensitive research equipment. A document review and extensive 3-Dimension computer simulation studies were conducted to evaluate EMF emissions from the building’s electrical distribution, mechanical and other systems.

FMS EXPERIENCE

Over its 20 years, FMS has successfully completed hundreds of EMI projects which included a diverse range of consulting and mitigation services.
