ICP- New Headquarters:

The International Center of Photography (ICP) has established its new world headquarters in a 20,000 sq. ft. area in the Basement Level of the prestigious Grace Building, located on the Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan.

The use of extremely high resolution displays and imaging equipment by ICP required that a stray magnetic field environment of < 5 mG be present throughout the facility despite very close adjacency of two high current utility transformer vaults and underground utility distribution circuits. However, a digital Imaging Lab within the facility required that ambient magnetic fields be less than < 1 mG.

The project’s design team engaged FMS to provide an assessment of existing magnetic field conditions and to develop and implement mitigation measures as necessary to ensure that the stringent EMI threshold requirements were met.

To reduce the elevated AC (60 Hz) magnetic field levels to the required < 5 mG threshold, FMS designed a shielding scheme with installation of highly conductive shielding material on the perimeter walls and areas of the floor adjacent to the walls.

To achieve the very low < 1mG requirement in the Digital Imaging Lab, conductive shielding material was installed on all interior walls, floor and ceiling to provide a full six-side shielded environment.
