While designing a new fourteen (14) story headquarters building in Osaka, Japan, Acces Co. Ltd., a major software development company, expressed concern that mission critical computer equipment scheduled for installation in several floors of the building would experience interference from power frequency magnetic fields generated by adjacent building electrical distribution equipment.
Acces authorized FMS to conduct an extensive assessment of the building’s construction documents to gain an understanding of the magnitude and spatial characteristics of magnetic fields in areas of concern, adjacent to the building’s electrical equipment. Extensive 3-D computer simulation studies of the power facilities were conducted to provide a view of magnetic field conditions likely to exist in areas adjacent to the building’s electrical equipment. The assessment concluded that meaningfully elevated magnetic field conditions would be present in several critical computer use areas of the new Acces building when completed and occupied. Acces requested that FMS develop and implement measures to mitigate the potential for elevated magnetic fields and interference conditions in computer equipment areas adjacent to the building’s electrical equipment.
Over its 20 years, FMS has successfully completed hundreds of EMI projects which included a diverse range of consulting and mitigation services.
